The photographs comprise a panorama of the quarry at Three Kings, as photographed in early December 2006. The views extend left to right, west to east, and were taken from the adjoining Three Kings Reserve.
The quarry operation is quite contentious locally, as the de-watering process is well below the normal water table and neighbouring property owners are concerned over possible future land movement.
Civic Trust Auckland is particularly interested in the future of the quarry site and would hope that eventually it will be amalgamated into adjoining reserves. A long term dream would be reinstatement to some extent of the two lost Kings and for the ugly water tank on the top of Big King to be removed or hidden. Strangely, it is the existence of the water tank that seems to have saved this last of the Kings from being quarried.
