One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill

This is an example of the so-called Arts & Crafts architectural style, popular in Auckland, particularly during the 1930s. It is a mix of English styles, brought to New Zealand via Cape Cod, USA.

Note the interesting timber framed joinery and the false shutters. Note also the right hand side gabled hip. The hip remnant is, to a large extent, merely an eaves overhang.

Notwithstanding its condition, this building is inherently handsome and could probably be restored, except that it is located on leasehold land. It will be interesting to see what eventually happens to this building.
