This statue of a Maori warrior can now be found in lower Queen Street, in architecturally challenged immediate surrounds, although there are several historic buildings nearby.
Commissioned in 1964 and completed in 1967 by Molly Macalister (1920-1979), the warrior gazes northward, seemingly through the Ferry building and beyond, in a timeless contemplation of past, present and future. Beneath his feet flow the residual waters of the Wai Horotiu Stream, long covered over, but still with memories of eels, swamp and wading birds.
