This delightful complex is a credit to the Helensville Historical Society, which occupies the complex and has a good library with other research facilities.

Buildings were moved from central Helensville on to this, an ex tip site, beside the river. Why were so many tip sites located on river banks and on the foreshore?

The hazards of building on such land is clearly demonstrated, for it has been necessary to put all structures on floating concrete slab foundations, at considerable cost. This overcomes uneven settlement and forms a barrier against methane discharge from subsoils.
