This locomotive is of the DF type, one of a batch from English Electric UK, imported by the then New Zealand Railways in 1954. They were instrumental in replacing steam power, which was gone within a decade. It has wheel bearings dated 1952 and 1955 and is stored under a small canopy, part open to the weather, also exposed to vandalism, outside the Pacific Steel premises on Fletcher Drive, Otahuhu.
