This was the first major building of the Green Lane complex, constructed in 1890. It has been designated category 2 by NZHPT and category A by ACC.
It faces an open area used at present for car parking. Another heritage building, No 5 faces the same open rectangle to the east, making this a most delightful precinct (see Building 5 elsewhere in this photos section).
